The Landscape of Oil

  1. I really like how this video used photography as a way to gain awareness about our energy crisis. It got me thinking about what will happen to all the oil run machinery when oil runs out, because as stated in the video it is not if the oil runs out but when. The photographs of landfills filled with car parts, tires, helicopters, and planes made me think about how we will find the landscapes to put all of these things. It is easy to recognize that oil will eventually run out, it is pretty clear mathematics, and that we will need to find new energy sources to sustain ourselves. But, it is hard to imagine a society where we need to find places for all of the objects that will no longer be of use. Those are the photographs that spoke to me the most and got me thinking about a different angle of the energy crisis. I wonder what others in our society would think of these photographs and if it would make an impact.

  2. Really great post, Lizzie--I hope everyone watches it--maybe I'll show it in class. It certainly gives us ideas for final projects such as using photography!
